Based in Malaysia, Jillian holds an MA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, as well as a BA in Business Studies. She has been on a 10-year writing journey that began at a medical NGO, which inspired her to write the stories of everyday people, their struggle, as well as their happiness. She has great passion for the environment, its various species of occupants and grabs every opportunity she can to write their stories. As a journalist, she has covered many aspects of living in Southeast Asia; as a program officer she worked with Orang Asli communities around peninsular Malaysia, installing solar lights while collecting wonderful stories; and her last formal employment helped raise awareness on human trafficking and forced labour in Malaysia, collecting and sharing stories to change the perceptions of Malaysians towards foreign nationals seeking refuge or justice. Finding her niche in writing, she is now a fulltime freelancer, serving governmental and non-governmental organisations focused on solution-based environmental research and community empowerment.
