Mental health has seen and unseen consequences affecting individuals and society as a whole. We must demand that our governments deal justly, fairly and compassionately with the consequences of this growing crises and investigate the myriad of underlying causes.

Sometimes people, who once saw themselves as valuable members of society, fall into circumstances, out-with their control, and their lives are forever changed. The sick, the homeless, the aged, and the poor, are just some of those who can become unseen and ignored – the forgotten.

When treading undervalued along the corridors of dejection,
Rebuffed by former world, by community unseen,
No longer parent, boss or lover, their purpose now uncertain,
Comfort-blanket past is now the refuge that they seek.

When pastures new beyond their reach, and hope is left behind,
The past becomes a greener place, the present world declined.
A longing for those loved and lost occupies the soul,
But succour needs a human touch, to heal, and to console.

When memories of comfort hands flood to fill the aching gap,
And soothing gentle words of love no longer can be claimed,
Life becomes a burden, that`s too arduous to bear, and
Thoughts of past, no solace bring, only sadness and despair.

When loves of old and respected work become distant memories,
The darkening world no place for them, their thoughts they turn again.
They long to lie, and dreaming wait, the calm of gentle sleep,
To remember past and happy times, when valued they had been.
