As part of the Indie News Week 2025 (9 -15 June) Bylines Scotland is hosting free webinars open to all members of the public. These will take place on Monday 9 June and Thursday 12 June at 7 pm. Anyone interested in learning more about Bylines Scotland – what we stand for and what involves being a writer and/or an editor, are very welcome to join us on these days.

Bylines Scotland speaks truth to power. In a world where power is too often deaf to fair enquiry and blind to truth, we have a role to play.

We are part of a global movement of citizen journalists who believe in liberal democracy, human rights and the right of the citizen to speak freely, truthfully and with respect for others.

We continue to stress how important is to make our citizens not only aware of fact-based news but also to have a participatory role in providing the news, mainly within their community.

Our writers come from all corners of our society representing the broad socio-political spectrum. They come from the islands, mainland and some from Europe. They have written about our NHS, our environment, the state of our politics, the science, the arts, Scottish literature, days out and about in Scotland.

What’s the future for Bylines Scotland, the Bylines Network of which we’re part, and other UK indie news providers and platforms? We all struggle financially. We can’t compete with the reach of the London-based, billionaire-funded press. We face a daunting landscape of news deserts and drylands, and a citizenry – especially younger people – that’s become disengaged from ‘news’.

But with your support, we can face such challenges. The Indie News Week from 9 –15 June is organised by the Public Interest News Foundation (PINF). Bylines Scotland and 40+ other indie news providers are taking part. So take this opportunity to help us keep holding up our platform from which people can sing their songs.

Meet our team behind the scenes

The Bylines Scotland line-up will include members of the board, editors and writers. If you have any questions for the team please send them to indienews@bylines.scot. The webinars will be hosted by our very own Mr Ronnie Barbour of Bylines Scotland radio fame. Learn more about Ronnie’s extensive archive by following this link.

This is your opportunity to ask that question you always wanted to know the answer to but didn’t quite know who to ask about Bylines Scotland and also to find out if you’d like to get more involved with Bylines Scotlands a writer or editor. We look forward to meeting you on Monday 9 June or Thursday 12 June. Registration for these events are now open.
