Scotland’s Time

A poem about time, efficiency, inhumanity, and the hope that the time has come for Scotland to build a healthier society

Explicit or implied,
“time is money”
rules our lives.
Speed of action
weaponised
through perpetual
profit drive
The ticking hand,
a subtle blade,
cutting out the fat
A vital workforce
cast aside,
a consequence of that
Pursuit of twin
golden calves:
efficiency and growth
The impaired
or weak excluded,
anathema to both.
Despite the pulpit teachings
on divinity of all
Willing folk
dismissed as stats
that read
“sub-optimal.”
Sovereign Scotland
Can retrieve
Our humanity,
And reconfigure
the temporal mess
that plagues society

David Murray

Born and raised in Kilmarnock, I now live and work in West Lothian. I always felt a bond with nature, which guided me towards studying horticulture. This led to a career, close to the soil. In recent years, my attention has been drawn to the economy and politics. There appeared to be obvious contradictions between narratives spun during the Financial crisis to those of the Independence Referendum. Modern technology has created time for study as I work. I'm a member of the Scottish Currency Group campaign
