Professor Sir John Curtice will be the principal speaker at the annual dinner of the European Movement in Scotland (EMiS) on Saturday 19 October at The National Piping Centre, Glasgow. The evening will begin with a Prosecco reception.

EMiS annual dinners normally sell out quickly, so early booking is advised. Go to fill out the form here. Dinner places for members are £35 each and £50 for non-members. The Dress code is smart casual.

Sir John Curtice is Senior Research Fellow at the National Centre for Social Research, Professor of Politics at Strathclyde University, the UK’s most distinguished psephologist, and a universally trusted political analyst in the media world. He is also Chief Commentator on the What UK Thinks: EU and What Scotland Thinks websites.

In addition to hearing from Sir John, EMiS will announce the winner of the Scottish European of the Year award. This is a new annual award designed to recognise individuals, groups or organisations that have contributed to Scotland’s standing in Europe and to the ideals of the European Movement. Candidates for the award are nominated by EMiS members, with a winner emerging after a vote by the executive committee.

The dinner will also hear the names announced of the three members who will have their work for the movement recognised through Honorary Life Membership.

This year’s dinner anticipates the completion of EMiS’ joint working agreement with the European Movement UK (EMUK), under which all members of EMUK living in Scotland will automatically become members of EMiS. The arrangement will see a significant rise in EMiS members in Scotland and benefit its income.

The AGM of EMiS will be held in early 2025 by which time the joint working arrangement with EMUK should be in place and new members can fully participate in EMiS’ democratic processes.
