Hi there, I am Anne Potter, Group coordinator of Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Dunbartonshire & Renfrewshire Women Against State Pension Injustice/Inequality campaign group. It’s really pleasing to align my experience with this year’s International Women’s Day theme, ‘Give to Gain’.
As a WASPI group coordinator, my main focus is on guiding and supporting members through the various processes and activities required in pursuing our compensation claim, as recommended by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO).
Over the last 10 years I have encouraged 1950’s-born women to take action in various ways, for example: letter writing, informing others unaware of the devastating state pension age delays, engaging with politicians across all parties, attending meetings, and taking part in demos.
Many felt unable to contribute. But, with help and support, it became clearly apparent that these women were perfectly capable of raising their concerns, both publicly and privately, and have certainly demonstrated confidence in making their voices heard.
It has been amazing to witness how they have developed, and their empowerment has been reflected in passing on their knowledge and expertise to others, something many never thought possible.
Ultimately, the more women we engage with, the better chance we have of making an impact and achieving our goal of gaining UK Government support to finally agree to compensation.
Working together and sharing our knowledge is the only way forward.
