“Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge gender equality.” –  International Women’s Day 2026.

A poem, a statement or a thought process?

In New York town in 1908, women declare, “enough!”

Enough debating and pointless complaining, time for change has come!

With heads held high they forward marched, proclaiming loud and clear,

“We want votes! We want fair pay! We want our right to dignity!”

Into the fray, in 1901, came the American Socialist Party,

And to applause, did declare, National Women’s Day established!

Confidence rose, numbers swelled, and support gained momentum.

Women`s voices stronger grew; their rallying cries soon noted.

A momentous leap in 1911, when International Women’s Day was decreed,

The female voice, acknowledged now, could no longer go unheeded.

The rich and poor, stood side by side, for their human rights.

Forward march for what is fair! We`ll no more be ostracised!

Though much has improved in ensuing years, much has failed to change,

Despite Accelerate Action of ’25, many barriers remain unbroken.

Women restricted by discriminating shackles, no say in future status,

The struggle goes on for equal rights and appointments to high places.

Many still fight for the right to be heard; to fulfil their cherished dreams,

For water clean, healthcare too, wages fair and hours that don’t mistreat.

Women`s achievements still unpraised, they remain the invisible ones.

Gender parity, “What`s that?” some ask: it appears to hold no meaning!

Women and children are daily trafficked; sexual abuse like a virus spreads,

Female voices remain ignored when domestic violence strikes.

Freedom and education, suffrage too, remain wishes unfulfilled,

Sometimes days of forward march seem more like a backward flip.

This year’s theme of ‘Gain to Give’ sends a message loud and clear,

“When women thrive, we all rise”, never truer words were spoken!

The key to change lies with all, including powerful in high places.

An equal world can be found, in respect and cooperation.
