Mum – Superhero

Many mums are heroes, they give up so much, and their sacrifices often go unnoticed and unrewarded at the time

Frances Nixon's tribute to her mum on Mother's Day

Dedicated to all mothers

I remember as a little child,
When I would run so free and wild,
My Mother saying, amid her tears,
For me she had so many fears.
Well, here I am, still wild it’s true,
But a better person for a Mum like you!

I remembered the sacrifices made,
The dreams you put on hold,
For all you did, both day and night,
To teach me what was just and right.
Unreserved love for me reached out,
Giving tender care in times of doubt.

So, with these words I wish you Mum,
Happiness, peace and forever sun.
And here’s a hug, a kiss or two,
So little return for the gifts from you.

I'm an active Glaswegian, retired from teaching and now working part time as an Invigilator. I also enjoy working in the volunteer sector. My most prized role is a volunteer for Blind Veterans. Here I have the honour of working with Veterans, helping with research and editing, enabling them to bring their memoirs into print and vocal recordings of their work.

A atmospheric photo of a typical Scottish Highland landscape. The clouds are myriad of colours from deep grey to light and the sun is shining through. The rolling hills are a brown/green colour and there is a loch to the centre right of the photo.
