Spring. Even the name makes me smile, adds a lilt to my step, and an occasional jump for the sheer fun of jumping.

Spring.  When I stretch and say, enough of these dark days, let’s enjoy the first flush of spring.

Outside is warm enough, and if not, there will be a fire someplace close enough to warm us through.

What sounds to be heard – birds chirping their joy. Cheeky robins seeking food from humans as they have done for a millennium and more.

A sheep ran up to me this morning, crying Maaa Maaa – I swear it is true.  An unfamiliar place and not knowing that I was not the shepherd, she was looking for kindness in all the right places.

Even my dog stayed gentle so that she could get used to the new grounds where she will soon have offspring of her own.

I imagine them now, lambs jumping on all fours as they want to do. Snowball puffs of pure white, wobbling on legs against the bright green of new shoots of grass and clover.  Soon enough, finding their feet gambling about, always a pleasure to see.

Best then not to think too hard of their very short, precious lives most will have.  But then, our own lives are too short by half – so many things still to be done, and the joyous treasures of new lives coming to know the brilliance of our world.

Spring!

I smile at the deep blue of the sky in between fluffy clouds wafting over the hills.  Almost a royal blue in places – a sky which stetches outwards to touch the rest of the universe, keeping us all safe in our little bubble of bright light.

Spring, when I jog to get the dog to run – and run she will. Most her energy and the love she gives away for free to all who come to meet her.

Spring, when I make a point to go and count the starfish at low tide in the morning and say a grateful thanks for all the animals who made it through the winter I spot along the way.  One day when I’m lucky, I hope to spot a pine martin or two.

For now, I delight to see the gulls soar high, and the egrets and oyster catchers sailing low on the morning breeze.  We once surprised a seal sitting on the shore.  And every morning, rain or shine, blissful sounds awake me – a chorus of songbirds bursting with joy as the dawn takes its turn on Gaia’s graceful pirouette.

Spring, when for me, many bills fall due, they are just a gentle reminder to enjoy all which costs us nothing and brings such priceless joy.

Ahh, Spring!
