She has spent more than 30 years working on pest management projects with smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. This included living in Zimbabwe for 14 years, where she set up an NGO to promote organic farming. Since officially retiring, Sam has been concerned with addressing climate change and reducing fuel poverty. She recently qualified as a Domestic Energy Assessor.
