A Poem for Every Season

A celebration of the circle of life that the seasons bring, with a message for our politicians

Each season has its merits. One needs the others to flourish, and each ensures that the circle of life continues! Global warming is having a detrimental effect on our seasons, confusing not only humans, but also animals and plant life. Politicians must take heed and make the environment a prominent issue in their manifestos.

Autumn

Goodbye world of youth,

When all was bright and new.

Life is at an end, it slowly ebbs away.

Defeated in the fight, to keep all hope alive,

Crumbling flakes gather speed and slowly blow away.

Goodbye bright world of youth, but not without a battle,

Down you go in glorious style, a spectacle for the world!

Winter

Biting cold, freezing feet, hands that are so numb,

Breath turns icy in mid-flight and thoughts are frozen still.

I long for fire burning bright to warm my ice-cold being.

For sun to come with warming rays, bringing merry cheerful days!

Spring

Something new, something bright,

Something in the air alive.

Cast off feelings cold and dark,

Energise with spark of life.

Spark that gives us hope for change,

That life has one more chance,

To blossom free and blossom sweet,

With hope and joy in each new day.

Summer

Summer is a time of bliss,

A time of hope and fun.

It is a time to dance and sing

And plan for bright new things.

We bring out smiles, we dust them off,

And wear them with delight.

We cast off cloaks of winter dark,

And don clothes of many colours!
